Holistic cancer care plans
The Straits Times
SINGAPORE - Insurance plans in Singapore cover the treatment stage when a patient is diagnosed with cancer but there is a need for plans which provide support for survivors, says Ms Kwek Perroy Li Choo, chief marketing officer of AXA Life Insurance Singapore, which has launched 360° Cancer Care, the first ever holistic cancer insurance plan in the market, which takes care of financial, practical and emotional concerns that may arise before, during and after cancer treatment.
The plan involves Holistic Care Services - a panel of experts who will provide support and assistance during the preventive care, treatment and rehabilitation stage.
It also allows for immediate financial support during the three stages of cancer: medical assistance benefit, which provides a lumpsum payout upon diagnosis of cancer; a lumpsum payout to support basic expenses through the Recovery Benefit in the event that the cancer advances and home rest is recommended; and a Cancer Relapse Benefit which provides an additional payout on relapse of cancer.
Its Aftercare Benefit allows reimbursement of expenses such as psychological counselling session, home care nursing, Traditional Chinese medicine and reconstructive surgery. It also provides assistance in finding and managing appointments with postcare experts such as dieticians and hair care clinics.
Ms Kwek says: "With AXA 360° Cancer Care, we hope to support and encourage more people to take steps towards cancer screening for early detection. We also hope to support cancer patients and survivors with emotional care and hopefully make psychological counselling eventually an integral part of cancer care."
